2011 Montgomery County/PA - Amateur Championship Series

Benefiting Charities and Partner Organizations

Dave Marshall Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Dave Marshall Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded at the time of the inception of the Montgomery County Amateur Championship, in 2002. It was named in memory of Dave Marshall -- a very active Blue Bell CC member, participator in Golf Association of Philadelphia events and supporter of junior golf -- who died at age 56.

The fund is dedicated to providing scholarship aid to junior golfers who have played in the Montgomery County Junior Championship and are going on to college. The winners of each year’s Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Championships automatically win a scholarship.

All of the junior competitors are then asked to submit a resume listing their academic, civic and personal accomplishments. Two more scholarships are then awarded to a boy and a girl based on academics, sportsmanship and service to the community. Those scholarships have been named the Harry Mirabile Memorial Scholarships, dedicated to the memory of the former Plymouth CC president and community leader. Each year, since the inception of the scholarship fund, the amount of scholarship money awarded has increased.

D.A.R.E Drug Abuse Resistance Education

This year millions of school children around the world will benefit from D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), the highly acclaimed program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles and has proven so successful that it is now being implemented in 75 percent of our nation's school districts and in more than 43 countries around the world. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
